Out and About: Pine State Biscuits

Can we talk about how sexual the Tillamook cheddar looks on this biscuit for a second?

Good. 

This is Pine State Biscuits, off Alberta Ave in Portland, a wonderful establishment that I first discovered on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives a few years ago. I wanted to go to this place for 2 years until I finally ventured out to the diner last September during Musicfest Northwest, and I fell in love. I can honestly say that a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich is one of my favorite foods.

Their menu includes some of the usual breakfast fare - hashbrowns, eggs, pancakes, but it's their biscuit sandwiches that make this place so special. 

Let's just examine their most famous sandwich - the Reggie (and Reggie Deluxe). 

• Fried Chicken
• Bacon
• Cheese
• Gravy
• (Egg on the deluxe)
• All on a scratch-made biscuit

Is your mouth watering yet? The rest of their menu to marvel at is available here, if you ever wanted some breakfast inspiration. They even have a biscuit with fried chicken, pickles, mustard, and honey. It's called the Mcisley. I don't know why. But it sounds amazing, right? There's also the Pine State Fried Club, which is nothing like your old deli club sandwich. Three fried grit cakes: one with fried chicken and spiced honey, one with pimento cheese and a fried green tomato, and one with ham and cheese. And all that is for $8.

I need a napkin to clean up my drool.

Yum.

As well as their delicious handmade biscuits, they keep their coffee local too with Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Not only are the actual cold brew bottles beautiful and nostalgic, but they serve it over ice in Ball mason jars.

Just take a look at that drippy cheese peaking from behind the coffee. Oh stop it.

I love this stuff. It's strong, dark, and needs several packets of Sugar in the Raw, but worth it for a good pick-me-up after a late night walking around Portland in the rain.

So slick, seriously.

Basically, if you're ever in Portland, you can add Pine State Biscuits to the food trucks on your "must-have" food list. You won't regret it, and call in advance to see if it's happy hour because I got my biscuit and coffee for $8.50 (I added a tip to make it an even $10). It's going to be a tradition from this day forward, because next time I'll have to take someone with me to share that Pine State Fried Club.

Great hangover food too. Not that I would know.
