Don't Fence Me In

I love flowy skirts. They are the red lipstick of fashion, because they are truly one of the most universally-flattering pieces of clothing that anyone can rock, whether it's a maxi or midi length. You just have to find the right length, and you've got the easiest and more comfortable piece of clothing in your wardrobe.

Nightmoth Blues

I just realized when I was editing these photos today that I wear a lot of denim. Like, a lot. I swear there is at least one piece of denim in each outfit on this blog. Well it might be a little hyperbolic, but if you looked in my drawers - you'd be staring into a sea of blue.

What can I say? It's da best.

Gettin' Thrifty With It: Pretty Peplum

Sarah and I had been dying to shoot down at the Spanish Steps by the old Elks Temple, and when we got there, we found this old decrepit white wall at the end of the building, so we decided to shoot there. It was a beautiful day - cold as all hell - but beautiful and sunny just the same. Also, my hair was kind of wonky.
These shoes are the newest addition to my collection, so I was incredibly excited to shoot them with an outfit. They are called the Florence Shoe, and they're by Matiko. Also, they were originally $175. Guess how much I got them off Karmaloop? $32. Can you say great deal? I love finding great sales online, and I don't think I've actually ever bought a pair of shoes online at full price. If I can hold out for a quality pair of shoes when they're 50% off rather than buying 10 pairs of shoes from F21 that will fall apart, I'll take the sale any day. These heels definitely take some getting used to walking in, but they are relatively comfortable for how tall they are because of the small platform.
I like to think of this as my "office" outfit, even though I haven't worked in an office since I was the editor of my college paper, and even then our version of an office was microwave popcorn at 11 p.m. on a Friday.

Denim and Dave

Denim is the best fabric to have ever been invented. It's perfect. It keeps you warm if it's chilly out, but it's not so heavy that you overheat. It's the best kinda coat for music festivals. And it doesn't hurt that it never goes out of style.

We were almost out of light this day, so Sarah and I were racing against the sun, but luckily we found this great red fence. There were a few teenagers gawking at us, as it was just after high school got out and we were right across the street from Curtis High School. Pssh, they wish they were as stylish as we were.

I'd been wanting to shoot this outfit for awhile, but couldn't find a jacket for it. I was planning on finding either a leather jacket or denim jacket from the thrift store. LO AND BEHOLD, I found this Liz Claiborne beauty at the Gig Harbor Goodwill. It is a bit big and boxy, but it's just how I like it. If it gets too cold I can wear a hoodie underneath it and I'm set!

My leggings are from American Apparel, and my boots are Madden Girl.

Gettin' Thrifty With It: Old Man Sweater

There are a lot of items I'm proud to say that I have found while thrifting, but these leather boots are definitely one of my proudest finds. I picked them up at the Gig Harbor Goodwill of all places about two years ago. I remember I stopped to pick up a pair of cheap throwaway shoes because I had worn the wrong shoes to go to a show in. They were tall, uncomfortable and just entirely inappropriate for a concert where I'd be standing for a good 3-4 hours. So when I stumbled upon these beauties in the bin that hadn't even been put on the shelves yet, it was a sign from a higher power that they had to be mine.
Along with the boots, the top came from the Gig Harbor Goodwill, just a simple t-shirt with mint stripes. My sweater and skirt are a couple other great finds - two of many from Urban Xchange down in Tacoma. It's definitely one of my favourite thrift stores to scour, because it is so picky that there really isn't as much junk to dig through. However, because the selection is so small, there aren't a lot of options for my size 10 self. Thankfully, this sweater came from the men's section.
