Calling All Doctors

It's kind of perfect timing that I was able to shoot this outfit when I did (yesterday), because guess what today is?

It's the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who! I am a longtime Doctor Who fan (David Tennant was my first Doctor, but I have since gone back and watched a bunch of the old seasons), and I wanted to do an outfit inspired by the Doctor himself.

My first idea for this inspiration honestly came from the 4th Doctor, with his big burgundy blazer and long bright scarf, and I was on a mission to find a new jacket anyway, so this was perfect.
As well as the simple scarf and jacket, I paired them with some Doctor Who swag - my tights from Hot Topic and beanie from Fuego. They did also have the specific striped scarf the 4th Doctor wore, but I wasn't about to pay $60 for a scarf.
The leggings are an homage to one of my favorite episodes ever - Vincent and the Doctor - and yes that is Vincent Van Gogh we're speaking about. They're the exploding Tardis art from that episode in Van Gogh's impressionist style. I'm kind of obsessed with them.
To go with the exploding Tardis, I've also got a Tardis on my head. I always like showing fan spirit in interesting ways. I thought about cosplaying Matt Smith's Doctor for an outfit, but I haven't quite found the right bow tie yet.
It's quite bizarre thinking about a television show being on for 50 years - not continuously - but that's still a long time for a country to invest in a show. I mean, considering the theme of a time traveling alien who regenerates 12 times, it does stand the test of time.
I will most certainly be watching the special when I get home from work tonight, and bask in all the nostalgic glory (especially seeing Ten and Eleven together, that'll be a treat).
Booties: TJ Maxx // Leggings: Hot Topic // Shirt: My mom's // Jacket: Target // Scarf: Fuego // Beanie: Fuego // Lipstick: Mac Red
Are you a Doctor Who fan? Will you be watching the 50th anniversary special? Was this the first you've ever heard of the show? If it has, I strongly suggest it. It's the longest running television show in history, so we definitely won't ever be out of episodes to watch.

Also today's post title comes from a Telekinesis song, off their self-titled record.

Have a lovely day! Allons-y!

  2. Fantastic outfit to celebrate Doctor Who's 50th anniversary with! I'm jealous that I don't have anything that comes even close to this level of awesomeness.

One nitpick: the exploding TARDIS painting is not from Vincent and the Doctor. It was supposed to have been painted by Vincent, and he cameo'd with it, but it's from The Pandorica Opens. That being said, Vincent and the Doctor was a much better episode. It's just hard to beat, since it's once of the best damn episodes in all 50 years, in my opinion. Hard to watch and not cry.

Love the beanie hat (my eldest niece has one, too), and mad props for not paying $60 for a Tom Baker scarf! After all, if anyone really wants one, there are tons of instructions and patterns on how to make it yourself that can be found all of the Internets. And that would probably wind up not only costing less, but also give the scarf more personal meaning.
