Lush Haircare Routine

My attitude about my hair used to be "low-maintenance to no-maintenance," but once I started trying to get the red out of my hair with multiple attempts with bleaching it, my hair hated me. I could hear it yelling at me when I blow dried it - "bitch you already fried me now you have to reheat me as well?"

So once I started working at Lush, I told myself I'd give the shampoos and conditioners a try. At first I wasn't sold, mainly because I was using the wrong shampoos, but once I found stuff that worked, my hair loved me again. It was soft and bouncy and silky and not breaking off like a piece of that Kit Kat Bar, if you know what I mean.

For those of you with dry(ish) hair that has recently gone through the ringer, here's what I've been using so hopefully it's helpful for you.

Godiva Shampoo Bar
I first was using Blousey, which I do really enjoy, but I found myself wanting a lather and I was going through Blousey incredibly quick. I was recommended by a coworker the Godiva bar, which is packed with pieces of shea butter and cocoa butter to replenish the moisture in your hair that would otherwise be taken out with the soap in the bar. It also has a beautiful sensual jasmine smell, similar to the Lust soap or Flying Fox Shower Gel. Plus, it's a great value and perfect for travel.

Happy Happy Joy Joy Conditioner

At first I hated the smell of HHJJ, and I'm still not a big fan of it, but I use this conditioner every other or every third time I wash my hair. It's packed with conditioning ingredients like cold pressed jojoba oil and Almond Milk, as well as grapefruit oil for shine. HHJJ is very conditioning, but doesn't feel too heavy on the hair, however I wouldn't recommend it for very fine hair as it might weigh the hair down.

American Cream Conditioner

This conditioner is definitely the yummiest smelling of all the hair products I use - strawberries and cream to be exact. I love to use it when I know I'm going to style my hair because while it conditions and leaves the hair silky and shiny with animal-safe lanolin, it also doesn't weigh the hair down. This one I always recommend for people who have "normal hair" but want a lot of shine.

R&B Hair Moisturizer
This thing is a holy grail hair product for me, because after I've bleached and rebleached my hair, I still needed extra lovin' for my ends. R&B is a best-seller for a reason, because it works for all hair types. Packed with fair trade olive oil, avocado butter, and with the added bonus of the subtle jasmine scent, R&B is a winner. I get compliments all the time now on how my hair smells, and it's because of this!

 

No Drought dry shampoo

I wash my hair usually every other day, and sometimes I'll go one extra day if I'm not going anywhere or if I'm in a hurry to get going. No Drought is my salvation in those situations. Having a fringe is hard to maintain that clean hair look because it gets oily faster than the rest of my hair. I just dump a bunch of this stuff in the roots of my hair and rub it in with my fingertips until the cornflour has absorbed the oil and it's not white anymore. I already love this more than the spray dry shampoos, which I find leave a gray cast on my hair and a can doesn't last that long at all. This bottle will last me forever. 

And one extra bonus, the Michel Mercier Detangling Brush

When trying to revive my hair, I also realized that my brushes were very old. Like years and years and years old. Some hurt my scalp, some pull way too much, and I have a feeling that they weren't helping with the breakage I was getting. So I popped over to Bed Bath and Beyond last week to get one of these guys after seeing it featured in a grav3yardgirl video where she asked the question - "does this thing really work?" I can't really tell yet if it's helping with my breakage, but I enjoy using it. It definitely does not pull on my scalp like my old brushes do, so that's a plus.
