Red Lip Series: YSL Glossy Stain in Rouge Vintage

Welcome to the second edition of my red lip series! I've had a couple of questions about my YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains in recent videos, so I figured I'd make this one my next post!
(Yes, I am wearing glitter on my eyelids. OCC Mirrorball to be exact.)

I really love this lip color for several reasons.
  1. LASTS FOREVER
  2. Stays glossy
  3. Comfortable
  4. Not sticky
  5. Nice everyday red
  6. Makes me feel fancy as fuck
Do you really need more reasons? Rouge Vintage is such a pretty muted red color that you can definitely wear every single day. It's one of those colors that remind me of when you see old photographs that have faded over time. This is the what the bright red becomes when it fades. If that makes sense.

Left: Three coats. Right: One coat
Don't you just love my hairy arms?

The one thing you have to be careful with this color is that if you don't apply it evenly, it is noticeable. It takes some practice, and some of the colors are more noticeable than others. I have another of these in Pourpre Preview (the berry purple colour), and it's a bit easier to apply evenly, but once you get the colour on, it stays on.
As you can see in the swatches above, it can be applied lightly for a "stained" look or more heavily for a full-on pigmented gloss look. I prefer the full-on look, because it does last longer and leaves a stain behind anyway.
On tip for when you apply this colour - unlike most lipsticks - DON'T RUB YOUR LIPS TOGETHER. At least for a minute or so after you apply, because it has to dry down to what I can call a gummy consistency. Once it's dry you can apply another coat, and then another, but once you're done and all coats are dry, you can put your lips together and it's not sticky. If you kiss someone, it will transfer however. It ain't one of those kinda stains. But in these photos, I had just eaten a bowl of soup, so you can see how good the staying power is. It lasts a good 4 hours on me if I'm not eating like pizza or a giant sandwich or anything.
It does dry down to a different color than what you see in the tube, and these photos are definitely true to colour so you can see the difference in the wet vs dry colour.
I hope that this was helpful, and if you're looking for an everyday red, I definitely recommend this colour. These Glossy Stains aren't cheap, so if you're on a budget, either save up for this, try something from the drugstore, or use a coupon when they come along at Sephora because they are $32.

Best wishes!
