Old Old Fashioned

This dress has been in my Etsy closet for over two years now, and I think I've worn it once... well now twice. I don't know why I haven't worn it more, maybe because I'm clumsy and didn't want to damage and/or stain it because I wanted to sell it. In this particular day, I was feeling very Betty Draper and decided to through this puppy on with some more modern and trendy accessories.

This dress in particular is from the 50s, I think. It was one of dozen vintage dresses my mom and I found at an estate sale years ago that all miraculously fit me, except for this one. It didn't want to close all the way around the waist, but I've lost at least a little bit of weight since then so I thought I'd try it again. Voila! It fit!

I'm pairing it with my Suebee knockoff flatforms from Tobi (sold out unfortunately). These things aren't the sturdiest shoes, but they were $20 so I can't complain.
I also put on my new beaded necklace that I got from Target this week. Just to give it a little more visual interest, I wore it upside down with the gold chains showing. I've basically got two necklaces in one! My bracelet is Amrita Singh (similar) which I got from Hautelook last year.

The belt is a generic skinny belt from Target. I have two of these ones actually, since they came with a couple of dresses I got last year of the same style in different patterns. Gotta love multiples!

I have no idea where my sister got this leopard print headband, but I'm sure there are similar ones at Fuego, Shoplately, Urban Outfitters, Modcloth, Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, pretty much anywhere with accessories. My sunglasses are obviously my Ray Ban Meteors, since they're the only ones I can wear for an extended period of time because of the prescription. Sometimes I just want to get contact lenses so I could own like a dozen pairs of sunglasses.

But perhaps the part of this ensemble that I'm most excited about - my new lipstick. It's the new Limited Edition "Sounds Like Noise" lipstick that Hayley Williams partnered with Mac to make. I'll have a full review of it up here soon, but oof I can tell you I love it already! It's a straight-up orange. No red. JUST ORANGE.

The title of this post is a Frightened Rabbit song off their album Midnight Organ Fight, which is one of my favorite albums of all time. And Frightened Rabbit is playing the Capital Hill Block Party in July! Hopefully this can be my first year shooting CHBP. The Flaming Lips are headlining, so how can I not want to shoot it?

  1. You look amazing. That dress is perfect! I have a similar one in black with 3/4 sleeves and buttons down the front. Navy is one of my favorite colors to wear and it looks amazing on you!. :)
